The Comox Valley Art Gallery will host a special Artist Talk with Taryn Goodwin on Saturday, Aug. 16 starting at 1 p.m., inviting the community into a powerful conversation about art, care, and collective connection.
Goodwin, a local neurodivergent and disabled social practice artist, is known for creating immersive and relational work that places care at the centre.
Goodwin’s work challenges conventional art-making methods. Their current exhibition, The Shape of Care, transforms the gallery space into a living, responsive environment shaped by community participation and collaboration.
“Care is not a solitary act. It is co-authored, continually negotiated, and held together in community. The Shape of Care is not fixed — it bends, stretches, and reshapes itself around the needs and offerings of those involved,” said Goodwin.
“It is built slowly, intentionally, and collectively. Nothing important is work we do alone.”
The talk will be conversational in nature, offering visitors a chance to learn more about the practice behind The Shape of Care, and to reflect on how care can take shape in our own lives and communities.
All are welcome. Admission is free, and accessibility support will be available.
