A group of local hotel workers is ready to walk the picket line in search of a living wage.
Workers at the Coast Victoria Hotel and Marina voted 93 per cent in favour of strike action, their union said in a news release.
The workers are 鈥渄emanding a living wage that reflects the high cost of living in Victoria,鈥� the release said. The 90 workers are represented by hospitality union, Unite Here Local 40.
The living wage in Victoria is now estimated at nearly $27 per hour.
鈥淐oast workers voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike because they鈥檙e not keeping up with the high cost of living in Victoria. The hotel should pay people a living wage so they can afford to live in their own city,鈥� said Harj Aheer, Local 40 representative for Vancouver Island.
Coast Victoria Hotel workers have been in bargaining since February.
