May's guest speaker is Chris Southwick.

Chris Southwick is the guest speaker at the Comox Valley Horticultural Society May 26 meeting. Southwick’s passion for rhododendrons and azaleas started early as her grandparents, Ted and Mary Greig were pioneering rhododendron and alpine enthusiasts at Royston Nursery. The topic is All About Rhododendrons!

Southwick was a co-chair of the 2012 Fall ARS Regional Conference and was honoured with the NRS Bronze medal in 2008, the ARS Silver Medal in 2022. Southwick serves on a committee which helped create the Greig Rhododendron Species Garden at Milner Gardens and Woodland in beautiful Qualicum Beach.

After retirement, Southwick became a certified Master Gardener and is a past president of the Vancouver Island Master Gardener Association. Southwick currently serves as an Executive of the Nanaimo Rhododendron Society and is also on the Board of the Milner Garden and Woodland and Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden. Southwick lives on a half an acre property and enjoys sharing her garden of several hundred rhododendrons, including many dwarf species, many native flowering plants, ferns, Japanese maples, dogwoods, primulas and vegetables.
