On Monday, Aug. 18, Chris Arruda, joined by Justin Lafortune from the Comox Valley Food Bank (CVFB) will be the guest speakers at the Comox Valley Horticulture Society meeting.
The Food Bank has been serving the Comox Valley from Cook Creek to Oyster River since 1983.
As a non-profit organization, it provides free supplementary food to individuals and families throughout the valley. With record numbers of people accessing their services each month, the CVFB is committed to offering nutritious food, fresh produce, and essential support to build stronger, more connected communities.
The presentation will explore food systems, wastage as it relates to food security and choice in the food banking world. Arruda and Lafortune will talk about current CVFB programs and ways people can become involved and help in their community.
Arruda focuses on marketing, branding and communications with attention on the experience of the customer and building relationships. He has decades of experience in the Food & Beverage industry and has found his passion working at the CV Food Bank.
Lafortune grew up in the Comox Valley and has worked in a food related industry for over 30 years. The past 4 years have been in the not-for-profit sector in the Comox Valley. He acknowledges that being able to give back to his community has enriched his life.
There’s a lot going on at the August meeting, not only are there excellent speakers but there’s also a garden harvest display and contest. If you can, bring a donation to the Food Bank with you. Arruda and Lafortune will take it with them and put it to good use!
