Comox Valley poet Lorin Medley launches her debut chapbook, ‘On the Way to Kluusms’, at Artful the Gallery, Friday Aug. 22 at 7:00 p.m.
Medley will give a reading as part of the Watershed Press literary evening, which includes readings from Volume II of the Cascadian Zen anthology.
Born in Nanaimo, Medley has lived on Vancouver Island for more than half her life. Speaking about bioregionalism and poetry, Medley says, "The longer I write about this bioregion, the more I learn and the deeper my relationship to it becomes. That's the beauty, also the challenge, of poetry grounded in place. Ignore the wild at your peril!"
The book launch starts off the Rain Shadow Poetry Festival, “Language and the Land”, Aug. 22 to 24 in Cumberland.
The festival is organized by the Rain Shadow Poetics Lab, focusing on poetry grounded in place, especially this bioregion of Cascadia. The festival includes workshops, readings and discussions featuring celebrated poets Daphne Marlatt, Garry Gottfriedson, Harold Rhenisch and Robert Bringhurst.
