The Glacier View Lodge (GVL) Legacy of Light campaign deadline has been extended to Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day.

“We invite our community to support of Glacier View Lodge and the Legacy of Light fund,” said GVL director of resident lifestyle and community programs Liz Friis. “How better to show your love for family and friends, or to honour the seniors in our community, than by your ‘gift of love’ to Glacier View Lodge?”

The campaign has raised $13,200 so far.

“For others in our community who noticed the tower of Christmas lights and star shining from above the Valley, know that the lights, a symbol of Legacy of Light campaign, shone in remembrance of many people who were dearly loved and in support of the needs of seniors living in our care community,” sdaid Friis.

Now in its 34th year, GVL’s “Legacy of Light” fund (formerly Book of Lights), initiated and supported by the Soroptimist International of Courtenay, brings awareness to a project that will give a legacy of comfort to lodge residents. This year the project is to update the main living area and replace the well-used furniture.

“This year we highlighted the contributions of a very special woman through the Legacy of Light campaign,” said Friis. “Maudy Hobson was a truly bright star who was devoted to the Lodge throughout her life. Later in Maudy’s life, she fulfilled on her wish to call Glacier View Lodge her home, her community and second family.”

“Maudy’s daughter Leslie recalls precious memories of many visits with her Mom, where they took a seat in the living room at the lodge. Perhaps those who have been connected to the Lodge can recall sharing special times here with your loved one, in the heart of the home, amidst the caring support of an amazing team of dedicated staff. For others, imagine your pleasure and pride in providing a comfortable new chair for a resident. Each of us is eager for the pandemic to come under control. Our residents especially are missing their extended family, friends and our many volunteers. When the day comes that we can once again welcome back our bigger community, it will be fabulous to host them in a newly updated space, to sit together in comfortable new furniture.”
