Film focuses on food production on Vancouver Island

Local foodies are in for a treat this Thursday with the screening of a brand new film focused on our food production systems on the Island.

Duncan filmmaker Nick Versteeg’s first film on food security on Vancouver  Island, Island On the Edge, was a great success at World Community’s film festival two years ago in the Comox Valley and the premiere of his new film, Food Security: It’s in Your Hands, sold out at the Victoria Film Festival earlier this year.

Versteeg will be in attendance Thursday at 7 p.m. at North Island College’s theatre to present this new film about Vancouver Island food security issues.

In this film, Versteeg interviews a number of experts, including farmers, and asks a series of provocative questions:

“Can we feed the world the way we farm today?”

“What is happening to the bees?”

“How can we get people into farming?”

“How do we treat the soil?”

He will be joined by a panel of local farmers and will lead a discussion after the screening.
