National Indigenous Peoples Day is celebrated on June 21, 2025, and the HMCS ALBERNI Museum and Memorial (HAMM) is excited to enhance its Aboriginal content offerings, complementing the stories presented at the museum.

The new exhibit will be on display from June 16 to 21 in the main hallway. With a generous donation from The Invictus Games Foundation, Warriors and Nations: A Story of Indigenous Service in Canada is a 14-panel exhibit that focuses on Canada’s First Nations veterans, their communities, and their culture across Canada’s provinces and territories. The panels recognize individual service members of the Canadian Forces from the 19th century to the present day and present their lives with courage, honour, strength, and pride.

Warriors and Nations will be one of HAMM’s rotating exhibits, which appear annually and seasonally. It will only be shown for the weeks of National Indigenous Peoples Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Plans are for this exhibit to become part of the museum’s regular displays and exhibits for year-round viewing if HAMM successfully raises funding to purchase its own permanent building in Cumberland.

HAMM, and its parent society, The Alberni Project Society (TAPS), is a publicly funded program of Remembrance for the Canadian Forces and others in times of war and conflict, spanning the era of the Boer War through to active service. TAPS is a registered Not-for-Profit Society and is a registered Canadian Charity. TAPS is not affiliated with the Department of National Defence (DND), the Royal Canadian Legion, or Veterans Affairs.

Admission to Warriors and Nations is free. Museum admission for 2025 is $5 per adult. Admission is free for the following groups: active-duty service families, families with special needs, members of TAPS, and family members of HMCS Alberni. All children, youth, and college/university students are free during our “Elbows Up!” summer discovery season. Summer hours now in effect: Monday - Saturday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m..
