Two local Indigenous Organizations; MIKI’SIW Métis Association and Indigenous Women’s Sharing Society are working together to host the “Comox Valley Spirit Walk” in downtown Courtenay on Sept. 30.
“(We) are encouraging people who want to participate to wear orange to remember Indigenous children and families affected by Indian residential ‘schools’ and other child apprehension programs,” said MIKI’SIW Métis Association program co-ordinator, Myrna Loga, in a press release.
Participants will register at Harmston Park - 6th Street & Harmston Ave. – to receive the map of the predetermined walking route.
The walk takes place any time between noon and 7 p.m.
Due to the ongoing concerns regarding the spread of COVID-19, participants are asked to walk in small groups through route in downtown Courtenay.
“In orange shirts and ribbon skirts, moccasins and a feather, we embrace the spirits of the ancestors, and we all walk together.”
