North Island College is hosting its annual Orientation Day Tuesday, Sept. 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to kick-off to the new college year. All NIC students are invited.

The Comox Valley campus is welcoming more than 1,300 students this fall who will study in a wide variety of programs including business, fine arts, health, human services, tourism, trades, university studies and upgrading.

Orientation Day begins outside Discovery Hall with coffee and bannock, followed by a welcome and greeting from NIC president John Bowman and Fernanda Paré, Elder in Residence for the Comox Valley campus.

Starting at 10 a.m., students can attend program-specific orientations, held in classrooms around the campus.

The rest of the day includes campus tours, a Blackboard Learn workshop, free pizza outside Raven Hall at 11:30 a.m., music and a marketplace. Local businesses, community organizations and various NIC services will be part of the marketplace.

“Marketplace is all about connecting students to campus and community resources and services that they can access throughout their school year,” said Hoogland.

Although classes begin on Sept. 4, registration is still available until Sept. 12.
