Christmas cheer is finally here, as the “elves” at Santa’s Workshop have secured a location for the 2018 Christmas season.
“The common ground for Santa’s Workshop is the desire to see everyone in the Comox Valley experience a positive and joyous Christmas season. It’s our job to make kids happy,” said Barb Metheral, in a press release.
This year, the workshop will be located in Courtenay, at 464 Puntledge Rd. (formerly the Red Cross building). Opening day for accepting donations of both new and re-usable toys, books, puzzles, games, electronics, bicycles, and cash donations will be Nov. 5, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. So start looking now at what is surplus in your homes, and bring it down to the workshop.
The workshop supplies Christmas gifts to children from newborns to 15 years of age. On Nov. 12, drop boxes will be located at different areas around Courtenay and Comox, so watch for upcoming details regarding the locations.
Call the workshop on Nov. 5 and onwards to make appointments to shop for your children. The phone number is the same as last year, which is 250-897-0098. The actual “shopping days” begin Dec. 3, and run until Dec. 21.
“Grandparents Day” shopping this season will be held Dec. 18-19.
Appointments are required.
Santa’s Workshop operates on a non-profit basis and is staffed by many dedicated volunteers.
The workshop has always been generously supported by Comox Valley individuals, businesses and service clubs through donations of new and used items, services and cash.
“Start searching now for your surplus items and bring them in,” said Metheral.
“Our wonderful ‘elves’ will be anxiously waiting to clean, fix and repair if needed, and they can become ‘cranky elves’ when they don’t have enough to do.”
