A singer from Nanaimo is topping this year's list of Canadian Country Music Association Awards nominees.
Cameron Whitcomb is nominated for six CCMA Awards this year, including the Fans' Choice Award, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Entertainer of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Single of the Year. The nominees were announced Thursday, July 17.
Whitcomb's songwriting and single nominations are both for Quitter, which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 charts. The song was co-written with Ben Cottrill, David Schaeman and Nolan Sipe.
The six CCMA nominations are tied for the most this year, with Josh Ross also scoring half a dozen nods. Some of the other country artists nominated this year include Brett Kissel, Dallas Smith and the Washboard Union.
Whitcomb, a former American Idol contestant who became known for doing backflips on stage, is playing sold-out shows in Canada, the United States and Europe over the coming the months on his I've Got Options Tour.
He will be one of the performers at the CCMA Awards on Sept. 13 at Prospera Place in Kelowna. The awards show will air live at 5 p.m. that night on CTV and stream the next day on Crave.
