Starting on May 20th Science World will visit eight elementary schools in Courtenay thanks to its On The Road program culminating with a special free public event on Saturday May 24 at North Island College, Comox Valley campus.
The public is invited to join the next community celebration on Saturday May 24 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., which brings together local people engaged in science, technology, engineering, art & design and mathematics (STEAM), from enthusiasts to local science professors. The Science celebration will include shows, local exhibitors and special workshops for both teens and teachers.
These live shows feature spectacular science demonstrations on a variety of topics including electricity, air pressure, forces and chemistry. From flying chickens to hair-raising electrical demonstrations and even the occasional explosion, there’s always lots of fun and audience interaction with Science World On the Road.
“Extending the Science World experience to every corner of the province, ensuring access to similar programming outside the dome, is incredibly rewarding,” says Stefano Giulianetti, Manager of the On The Road Program at Science World. “We believe that every school, teacher, student, and family in British Columbia deserves access to vital resources and programming to prepare for a future powered by STEAM, filled with wonder, critical thinking, and problem-solving.”
Additionally, at the May 24 event there will be special workshops specifically for 11+ teens by the Science World ‘Girls and STEAM’ program, presented by STEMCELL Technologies. This is open to all participants aged between 11-14 . During the workshop, participants will get hands-on with LEGO® SPIKE™ robotics kits and learn how math and engineering help shape our world.
The main event is open to all ages with the Teens-only LEGO® SPIKE™ workshop occurring between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. There is a teachers only ‘Teachers Café’ running all day on a drop-in basis. This is a free event.
