Beloved musician, song leader, and creator Sarina Partridge is returning to the Comox Valley on Sunday, May 25 at the Little Red Church.  This time she'll be joined by her two pals, Heidi Wilson and Willy Clemetson. Together they form the Heartwood Trio.

There will be two Choral Valley events: a Vocal Workshop (all experience levels welcome) from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and a 7:00 p.m. performance of "The Well Tree", an original musical written by Heartwood. Tickets can be purchased for one or the other, or there's a bundle ticket for both.

“Singers in the Comox Valley will be thrilled to know that Sarina is returning to teach more of her wild and precious songlets,” says Choral Valley event producer, Wendy Nixon Stothert. “We now have over 200 singers participating in four different Song Circles in the valley that have sprung up in the last 18 months! This format for community singing is different than a traditional choir in that songs are taught by rote, participants can drop in as their schedule permits, and there are no performances. The leaders of these circles are regularly teaching songs that Sarina has composed.”

“The Well Tree” is an all-ages, immersive, participatory journey through song and story. It’s a three-person musical, illustrated by a ‘crankie’ - an illuminated, papercut, hand-cranked scroll. It is an original 'singing story' about wild journeying and remembering kinship -- the tale of a young woman moving beyond the fog of isolation to meet songbirds, snails and ancient trees as she travels through these unravelling times, finding her way home. The three members of Heartwood are the actors, musicians and the crew that runs the crankie —created by paper cut artist Jennifer Jones – and audiences help sing pieces of the story.

The Heartwood Trio is Sarina Partridge, Heidi Wilson, and Willy Clemetson. Partridge is a musician, song-leader and educator in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and feels most alive when learning, creating and sharing original songs for community singing. She has a passion for connecting people with their own creativity and with community, and uses singing to help folks develop a sense of wonder for this wild world around us.

Wilson lives in Vermont and has been leading community singing for the past 14 years. She also loves to share songs in service to community and the wild world; songs that celebrate the seasons, bring groups together, offer thanks, muster courage, make room for healing and grieving and those songs that send us on our journeys and welcome us back home. She is drawn to the potent and surprising journey of deep-listening and collaborative emergent music making.

Clemetson comes to us from Maine where he’s a fiddler and song crafter with a passion for living traditional music and the growth and change that can happen within a tradition. He has a deep gratitude for the genuine connection and community that music inspires.
