On May 4, the Awakeneers are collaborating with the Comox United Church to present “Singing Spring”, a concert in honour of Earth Day. The concert will follow the church’s morning service.
"We're excited to host the Awakeneers as their music and message is a perfect fit for our Earth Day gathering," says Rev. Karen Hollis.
Currently based in Campbell River, the Awakeneers are a nomadic tribe of multi-instrumentalist songwriters most of whom are siblings. Their music offers a genre-bending blend of acoustic positivity that orbits elliptically around the idea of folk music, centring around honest vocals sweetened with multi-part harmonies and acoustic instrumentation.
“With so much division and challenge in the world these days we hope to provide an opportunity for folks to gather together in a space of joy, reverence and gratitude for the gift of Life on Earth.” said Erica, one of the band members.
The Awakeneers’ repertoire of original songs brings a fresh perspective to principles that are common to all spiritual and religious traditions. Through poetic and direct lyrics, evocative melodies, and supportive instrumentation, an Awakeneers concert aims to give a gift of inspiration, joy, and recognition that supports individuals’ journey on the Way, whatever path they may be taking.
As an independent, self-managed band based on Vancouver Island, they have built a strong hometown following with a unique approach to the music business that has included numerous local radio and TV performances, touring on a wooden sailboat, and giving away their music for free on their custom-built Awakeneers music streaming app.
The concert runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., tickets are by donation and available at or at the door.
