North Island - Powell River MP Aaron Gunn has been appointed to the Standing Committee for Fisheries and Oceans.
"This committee represents multiple industries within my riding and thousands of jobs, including recreational fishing, commercial fishing and aquaculture," said Gunn in a statement. "More importantly, it also represents a way of life that is central to many coastal communities and more than a dozen First Nations. This is personal for me."
The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans studies matters relating to fisheries and oceans, including Indigenous rights-based fisheries, maritime search and rescue, and the aquaculture industry. The committee are also mandated to oversee the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, review policy, and exercise procedural and administrative responsibilities.
Joining Gunn in the committee are Mel Arnold (Conservative), Paul Connors (Liberal), Serge Cormier (Liberal), Chris d'Entremont (Conservative), Alexis Deschênes (Bloc Québécois), Ernie Klassen (Liberal), Robert J. Morrissey (Liberal), Clifford Small (Conservative), and Patrick Weiler (Liberal).
The election of the committee's chair will take place on. No further meetings have been scheduled as of June 16.
