Comox Valley biathlete Glenn Rupertus took home the gold at the IBU World Masters Championships in March.

Glenn Rupertus got to see his name at the top of the leaderboard at the IBU World Masters Championships in Finland earlier this year.

Rupertus, who is a three-time Olympian and the current head coach of the Vancouver Island Biathlon Club, represented Canada at the competition in Kontiolahti, Finland from March 20 to 23. He was accompanied by two other Vancouver Island athletes, Larry and Pamela Cecco.

Rupertus ended up taking home the gold in the individual event, Gold in the Sprint event, and Bronze in the Mass Start event in the 60 plus age category.

"This was a career achievement for Glenn still winning and loving the sport biathlon," a release from the Vancouver Island Biathlon Club says. "Glenn is grateful for all the support he received from other club members and coaches during his two years of training for the event."

The club has plans to bring even more athletes to Finland for the competition next year.
