The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) invites residents to join the celebration as the Comox Valley Sports Centre marks its 50th anniversary Sept. 6.
The facility opened its doors in 1975, so the theme of the day will be a throwback to 1975. This family-friendly event will honour five decades of recreation, community connection, and healthy living in the Comox Valley.
Event activities at 1975 pricing includes:
- a retro-themed aquafit class (1:30 to 2:30 p.m.)
- a cake cutting in the lobby at 2:45 p.m.
- a public swim (3 to 5 p.m.),
- a public skate (3:45 to 5:15 p.m.),
- and a poolside movie (6 to 8 p.m.)
We will be honouring the 1975 admissions for all events on Sept. 6. Children 12 and under ($0.30), Teens 13-18 ($0.45), Adults 19-54 ($0.75) and Seniors 55+ ($0.30).
Starting Aug. 7, the facility will kick off celebrations with 50 Days of Giveaways. One patron per day will win a free admission just for showing up and being part of the celebration.
鈥淎s part of the celebration, residents are invited to participate in a community photo contest from Aug. 7 to 23 that showcases the rich history and personal memories tied to the Comox Valley Sports Centre,鈥� explains Trish Morgan, assistant senior manager of recreation services.
鈥淧articipants can submit photos taken at the facility from 1975 to the present for a chance to win a three-month family pass. Each valid photo submission also receives a complimentary admission pass to the Sports Centre.鈥�
Submissions can be made online at or dropped off in person at the front desk of the Sports Centre. Select photos will be displayed as part of a historical photo exhibit during the event Sept. 6.
