The RCMP has deemed a death not suspicious after an investigation by a major crime unit.

The death of a man in Port Renfrew that was initially deemed suspicious is no longer being investigated by the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU).

On June 23, shortly after 9 p.m., Sooke RCMP responded to a report of a man with blood on him near Pachidah Road. When police attended, they located an injured man who was later pronounced dead despite attempts to save him.

"As a result of the police investigation, in conjunction with the ongoing concurrent fact-finding investigation being conducted by the BC Coroners Service, the death is no longer considered suspicious and is non-criminal in nature. The individual arrested has also been cleared in this matter," noted a news release from the RCMP.

The BC Coroners Service is now investigating the death, and RCMP will no longer be releasing details.
