Police Beat: Driver was drugged

RCMP received a call of a possible impaired driver at the Beaver convenience store at 130 Centennial drive in Courtenay, on March 13th.

March 13RCMP received a call of a possible impaired driver at the Beaver convenience store at 130 Centennial drive in Courtenay, on March 13th. Police located the woman driver sleeping in her vehicle at the Tim Horton's parking lot on Ryan road a short time later. The woman was found to be under the influence of a drug. The woman was given a 24 hour suspension and her vehicle was impounded. (2012-2743)A motor vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Headquarters Road and the Old Island highway. The low speed collision was caused when the light turned green and the second vehicle at the intersection started forward movement before the vehicle in front had started. No injuries and minimal damage to one of the vehicles. (2012-2745) Overnight on March 13th several thefts were reported in the area of Briardale road in Royston. Unlocked vehicles were entered and a variety of items stolen. One neighbor also had a five gallon can of gas stolen from his property.  Police attended a single vehicle roll over on the Strathcona parkway on March 13th. RCMP located the vehicle partway up the mountain towards the Mount Washington ski area. The two people in the car sustained minor injuries. The driver was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act for driving too fast for the conditions. (2012 - 2763) March 14The Comox Valley RCMP were kept busy with numerous motor vehicle incidents  that occurred as a result of the inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to adjust their speed accordingly when road conditions vary.Comox Valley RCMP received a call of a Honda generator being stolen from an unlocked garage in the 2100 block of Miracle Beach drive in Merville. The theft happened overnight on March 13th. (2012 - 2809)Comox Valley RCMP were called to a new housing development at Arden Road and 1st Street in Courtenay for vandalism. Sometime overnight on the 14th of March, a unit was entered and holes placed in the drywall.  A portable radio was also stolen. (2012 - 2822) March 15RCMP responded to a two vehicle collision at the merge lane on Ryan road and Lerwick road.  The first vehicle in the merge lane was hit from behind by a second vehicle that had started moving before the first vehicle. This investigation is continuing. (2012- 2837) A theft from vehicle was reported to the Comox Valley RCMP on March 15th. The theft occurred in the 3800 block of Ross Avenue in Royston. Stolen was a pool cue in a brown, alligator skin case. (2012 - 2847) On March 15th a report of a vehicle being entered and ransacked while parked at 4 Bear Cat Road in Royston was called into the Comox Valley RCMP. Nothing taken in this theft. (2012 - 2848) A theft of a purse from a woman at the Too Good to be Threw thrift store in Courtenay was reported to RCMP on March 15th. A credit card that was in the purse was used shortly afterwards at two locations in Cumberland. This investigation is continuing. (2012 - 2855) March 16A call of vandalism was reported at Chances Casino in Courtenay.  A male ripped one of the outside ashtrays off the wall. This investigation is continuing. (2012 - 2888) On March 16th Comox Valley RCMP attended a Break and Enter in progress at a residence in the 1700 block of Beaufort Avenue in Comox. Police located a man and woman outside the residence, it was soon discovered that this was not a Break and Enter occurring. However the man was found to be in breach of a court order, where he is  not to possess any weapons. Charges are pending. (2012 - 2896) Comox Valley RCMP took a report of vandalism to a vehicle on March 16th. Sometime overnight the back window of a car was smashed while it was parked in the owner's driveway in the 1200 block of 14th street in Courtenay. (2012 - 2901) March 17Police responded to a fight on Aspen Road in Comox. Three persons were driving away when police arrived and confirmed that all had wished to be involved in the fight. The driver of the vehicle was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was given a 90 day driving prohibition. His vehicle was also towed and impounded. (2012- 2917) On March 17, RCMP were called to the area of Livingstone Road in Royston. A vehicle was entered, but nothing appeared to be missing. (2012 - 2924) On the night of March 17th an ashtray was stolen from a home in the 3800 block of Livingstone Road in Royston. The week prior apparently a vehicle on the same property had been entered and cigarettes stolen. (2012 - 2929) Comox Valley RCMP were called to deal with threats on March 17th in Cumberland. A woman reported finding a note on her table threatening her with bodily harm. The home owner had left her front door unlocked. (2012 - 2933) A motorist was surprised on March 17th while driving on 6th street in Courtenay. The woman stated that she was driving westbound when a skateboarder ran into her car at the intersection with Back road. No injuries were sustained and the skateboarder fled the area. (2012 - 2934) On March 17, RCMP attended a two-vehicle collision on Forrester avenue in Comox. It would appear that the driver of one car had driven into the back of a legally parked vehicle, when the driver looked down to adjust the car heater. The driver was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act. (2012 - 2948) On March 17, RCMP responded to an intoxicated man causing a disturbance and trying to fight other persons at a memorial being held on Dunsmuir avenue in Cumberland. The man was located being restrained on the ground. Once handcuffed and in custody the man head butted one of the auxiliary RCMP officers twice in the head. The male was kept in cells overnight for intoxication. He was released the next morning on a Promise to Appear in relation to the Assault and Mischief. (2012 - 2947) March 18Residents of Denman Island reported a motor vehicle a collision that happened at the intersection of Denman Road and East Road on the night of March 18th. The driver was reported to have no injuries as a result but is now facing Motor Vehicle Act charges. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in this collision. (2012 - 2955)One Courtenay motorist was taken to hospital with minor injuries and a second motorist was charged with Failing to Yield to a Vehicle under the Motor Vehicle Act, after a collision at Muir Road and Mission Road on March 18th. The driver of the offending vehicle started into the intersection before it was safe and ran into a scooter. (2012 - 2965)On March 18, while investigating an assault in the 4600 block of Headquarters Road in Courtenay, an RCMP officer was assaulted. An intoxicated woman was being asked questions when she turned on the officer, attempted to kick him and was subsequently arrested. The woman was released on a Promise to Appear for court at a later date. (2012 - 2987) Comox Valley RCMP entered into an assault investigation after receiving a call from the 4600 block of Headquarters Road, Courtenay. The RCMP located an intoxicated woman yelling and screaming. This woman was on court-ordered conditions of not to consume alcohol. She was arrested for the breach and held for court. (2012 - 2990) Charges of uttering threats and assault are pending against a Courtenay resident after police were called on March 19th, to a home in the 4900 block of Cliffe road. The man alleged to have been making the threats was arrested and held in for court. (2012 - 2992) March 19The staff at Vanier school reported a speeding vehicle which was spinning its tires and skidding sideways in the parking lot of the school. RCMP attended and later located the suspect vehicle in Campbell River at which time a Motor Vehicle Act violation ticket was issued. (2012 - 2996) At about 9:30 p.m. on March 19th, RCMP were in the area when a report of a broken window at the Mud Sharks coffee shop on 5th street in Courtenay was reported. A van leaving the area was stopped and the driver checked. The driver was found to be bleeding profusely from both hands and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Comox Valley RCMP. (2012 - 3016).
