August 21, 1936 – January 22, 2017
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Alphena Franklin-Amor after a lengthy illness. Alphena was born in Kelowna, the eldest of 4 siblings. Pre-deceased by her parents, Edwin and Janet Franklin and her brother Dale Franklin. She is survived by her 3 children, Janet (Mark) Greve, Didre (Dale) Caudwell and Bradley Amor, brothers Frank (Pat) Franklin and Kenneth Franklin. She also left behind 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Alphena spent her childhood years in both Kelowna and Vancouver. In 1954 she moved to Toronto where she met and married Clifford Amor who was a member of the RCAF. They had postings to Belgium, France, Saskatoon, and Germany. In 1965 their final posting brought them to the Comox Valley.
Alphena held various jobs over the years. Working as a secretary in the parliament buildings in Victoria, clerk at Comox Shoes, proofreader for the Comox Valley Greensheet, executive secretary for Seaboard in Vancouver, Expo 86 and finally managed an apartment building in Vancouver. Alphena retired and returned to the Comox Valley in 1994 to be near her children and grandchildren.
Since 2014 she was a resident of Oceanview where every day she thoroughly enjoyed the ocean view from her bed. We wish to thank the staff at the Views for their compassionate care during her final years.
