1939-2017

Don lived - by many measures - a full, rich life as a husband, father, friend, amiable acquaintance or a client with a friendly smile. He spent the bulk of his working life with Eaton's; lived in Victoria, Fanny Bay and Courtenay; raced cars; raised horses; and built and maintained a couple of hobby farms. He enjoyed camping in his RV, walking in his Courtenay neighborhood, and being a regular at the White Spot for several of his later years.

Don was also robbed of much of his later life by Huntington's Disease. In fact, it ultimately killed him. But despite the horrors of the condition, at their worst in the past couple of years, Don remained determined to live as well as he could. He was pleasant to others to his final days.

Those who saw him the most and spent the most time with him, whether during his time in care or in the community years earlier, have remarked on how incredibly friendly he was and how much they liked him. No obituary can adequately capture all that Don was and what he meant to those who knew him. But he was liked and loved, and he'll be missed. Don's family thanks everyone - especially those at Glacier View Lodge - for the care they provided him. We encourage you to consider donating to UBC's Centre for Huntington Disease (cmd.med.ubc.ca) to help others still fighting this disease.
