October 25, 1938 – January 21, 2017
Ducky passed away peacefully
January 21, 2017 with family by his side.
Born October 25, 1938 in Cumberland General Hospital to James Dobie and Gertrude Somerville. Ducky lived his entire life in Cumberland with his secondary home being Woss Lake where he worked in the logging industry for most of his life.
He was predeceased by his parents James Dobie and Gertrude, and his siblings Alex, Mabel, Jean, Ellen, Tom, Dobie, Artie and Gertrude. He is survived by his brother Terry (Clarice) and sister in law Trudy and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Ducky loved hunting and fishing at Comox Lake and enjoyed many trips to the cabin in his younger days. He didn’t venture far from home but somehow ended up in Ireland with family in 1982 which was a very memorable trip for him and the stories are numerous as you can imagine.
Ducky also enjoyed his walks up town to play his lottery tickets and chatting with people along the way.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Victoria General for taking great care of him on his numerous stays. We would also like to thank all the home care nurses who were in and out over the years. He always had chocolate for his caregivers! We would also like to thank all those who stopped in, brought him a meal, helped him out in any way and those that chatted on the phone with him during the evenings.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 11th at 1:00pm at the Legion in Cumberland. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Ducky’s memory to a local charity would be appreciated.
“See ya later, pal”
