December 22, 1928 - May 27, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edna Lila Bowen. Edna passed away in "Ocean View" Senior Care at the St. Joseph's Hospital in Comox on May 27th, she was 89 years old. Edna was born in the Comox Valley in 1928 where she lived, worked and raised her family.
She was predeceased by her parents, Reha and Dennis Currie; her two sisters Alma Mah and Sheila Mazzone. She was also predeceased by her son Keith Bowen in 1979, and Monte Bowen in 2014.
Edna Bowen is survived by son Dan Bowen (Lena Bowen) and daughters Nedra Jones and Michelle Bowen (Ray Lowe). Her grandchildren are, Dave and Jason Bowen, Alisha Tinga and Andrea Jupe; Jennifer Jones, Brandon Williams and Savanna Reichelt.
She had many great grandchildren; Rachael and Sam Bowen, Brielle and Sienna Jupe, Mannix and Izaac Williams, Parker and Olivia Tinga, Jackson and Jaden Bowen, Joshua Fitzgerald and Raina Reichelt.
Edna grew up in Sandwick, and attended the Sandwick School. She started working at Searle's Shoes in 1942 as a young lady. In 1946 she met and married Monte Bowen living and raising her family in the Comox Valley. The family bought the Tsolum Store in 1957 and enjoyed their life in the Grantham area for 8 years. Edna ran the business and enjoyed the rural community spirit of the people who lived in the Grantham area.
The Bowens' bought the old "Morrison Orchard" on the Back Road in 1965 and the family enjoyed many years living there. Edna was an exceptional artist and member of the Federation of Canadian Artists; she took part in many art shows in the Comox Valley over the years. Perhaps one of her greatest interest was birdwatching and going on birding expeditions with her many friends. She was a member of the Comox Valley Nature for over 30 years and participated in many bird counts. She was also a lifetime member of the Rock and Gem Club.
Throughout her life and into her later years she always enjoyed the many family get-togethers, and special occasions with a houseful of people to entertain and to prepare special dinners. It is hard to find the words to express our feelings, but we loved her every day through our lives together, and now we will miss her every day we are apart.
There will be a family gathering at Dan and Lena Bowens' to be announced at a later date.
