"Thich Nhat Hanh"
It is with great sorrow that we announce that Brian Friesen returned to nature peacefully at home. Brian was surrounded by his wife Tossawan and long-time friends, both Canadian and Thai. Brian had fought a long courageous battle against cancer.
Brian is loved, respected and greatly missed by his wife Tossawan (Toss), stepdaughter Poon, stepson Pete, step-grandchildren Junior and Jenny, brother Wayne and sister Sandra. Brian was predeceased by his mother Elsie, father David, sister Lori, and sister Valarie.
Brian was born in Cold Lake, Alberta and in 1962 his family moved to Comox Valley. When Brian was 15, he started working with his dad and his brother in Co-Val Stucco. Brian loved sports and played football. Brian also Coached Women's Fastball in the Comox Valley Women's Beer League, the Loft Lushes. Brian worked and coached till the early 90s.
Then Brian moved and started a new chapter in his life. Brian moved to California and then Las Vegas working in a Construction company. It was in Las Vegas where Brian met his loving wife Tossawan. They lived in Vegas for 3 years, then moved back to Comox Valley in 2010. Brian and Toss made a home for themselves in the house he left behind in the early 90s. Brian began his battle with Cancer in 2018 and fought a five year battle, which Brian finally lost. But Brian didn't let the Cancer fully win, Brian returned to nature on his own terms.
Special thanks for the incredible care for Brian for the last 5 years go out to Dr. Maria Smit, Dr. Bosma in BC Cancer Victoria, doctors, nurses and staff at Cancer Care in North Island Comox Valley Hospital.
Brian's celebration of life will be arranged early spring next year (Time and place will be announced).
