Gary Durant Thompson age 78 passed away peacefully at home with his wife Monique, daughters Diana and Claudine by his side on July 20, 2017.
He was born in Ottawa, Ontario on January 31, 1939 to the late Joseph and Cora Durant Thompson, as the youngest of 6 children. Gary joined the RCAF (Air Force) February 9th, 1956 following in the footsteps of his father and brothers, Walter and Dalton. He was stationed in many bases and in 2F Wing Grostenquin, France he met his wife Monique the love of his life. Returning to Canada, he was stationed in Namaos Alberta, 412 Squadron Ottawa, and Lahr Germany. He served in the Navy August 2, 1971 on the Gatineau and Kootenay, Esquimalt, Toronto, Bagotville, and Portage la Prairie. Settling in Comox on September 9th, 1989 Gary taught a cooking course at the Quadra Navy Cadet Camp and was a member of the RCAF 888 and the 160 Legion of Comox.
Gary was a loving husband, father, and grandfather of 8 grandsons, great grandfather of 6 and 1 great granddaughter. He was a good friend and loved all creatures great and small. Gary will be sadly missed by his wife Monique, daughters Diana and Claudine, sisters Margaret and Helen from Ontario, sister-in-law Pat of Whitehorse as well as all the family from France and so many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 888 Wing Military Row, Lazo, BC on September 30, 2017 from 2pm to 4pm.
