In Loving Memory ~
Dad was born in the Comox Valley and spent most of his life in Union Bay, where he met his wife, Catherine and they were married for 67 years. He built their house and became a dedicated member of the
community.
He worked as a truck driver starting at 15 years old, driving coal truck for Roy Davis, and later working for West Coast Freight, Johnston Terminals and Dairyland. He valued hard work and a job well done.
He served as a volunteer firefighter for 35 years and was a long-time member of the boards at the Union Bay Credit Union and the Water Improvement District. He also worked endlessly to improve the buildings and properties of the Union Bay United Church and the Community Hall.
He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine, his children: Brenda (Larry) and Calvin (Annette), his grandchildren: Meghan (Blake), Ryan (Teresa), Andrew and Sophie (Charlie), his great-granddaughters: Billie and Rowan, and his brothers Normand Lesley. He is predeceased by his brother, Des and sister, Audrey.
Dad was the cornerstone of his family, always making sure everyone he loved was taken care of and their properties and vehicles were well tended to. He loved nothing more than everyone being together. He enjoyed working in his yard and garden, fishing in his boat, and time spent at the family property on Hornby Island. He will live on through all of us and we'll share many "Papa" sayings and stories for years to come.
We would like to extend a very sincere thank you to Dr. Adam Thompson, as well as the many community health workers (especially Erin, Cheryl, Janet, Steve and Windsor) and the home support nurses who all made it possible for him to pass in his home.
As per his wishes, there will be no funeral service or gathering. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Gerry's name can be made to the Union Bay Firefighters Association c/o Comox Valley Regional District.
