Harry passed away on December 17, 2023 at Courtenay and was born in Brighton, Ontario on August 9, 1934.
Harry's early life was spent on the family farm, both in Brighton and Cobourg, Ontario. Ross, Chris and Jean were in their teens when Harry was born. After public and high school, Harry entered Kemptville Agricultural College (near Ottawa) and graduated in 1956.
He was hired after graduation by the township of Atikokan (NW Ontario) as assistant to the Recreation Director. Here he met and married Joan Dickison.
Another opportunity arrived and it was off to Estevan, Saskatchewan to become their 1st Recreation Director for the city. While in Estevan, daughters Michele and Mary were born. 3 yrs later Harry was hired by the Province of Manitoba, Department of Recreation in Winnipeg, where he stayed until his retirement.
Harry loved sports. He played handball every noon hour during his working days. After retirement there were alot of ski trips and golf. During his working days there were ski holidays with Michele and Mary.
After retirement Harry and Joan travelled extensively, both in the US and Europe. We exchanged homes and also hosted several exchange students through Rotary, which Harry belonged to for years in Winnipeg. It was a good life.
Harry was blessed with a wonderful sense of humour. He was definitely a "people person." It endeared him to all who met him!
Predeceased by his parents, Tom and Mary Sirett, brother Ross, sister Christabel, and sister Jean.
Survived by wife Joan; daughter Michele (Dave Neill); daughter Mary (Darren) Wilson; 4 granddaughters and 1 grandson-in-law.
A Family Celebration of Life will be held later in the summer of 2024.
