In Loving Memory of Hilleard Groseclose aka "The Cowboy" passed away peacefully on September 13, 2021 at Glacier View Lodge in Courtenay BC at the age of 89.
Predeceased by his parents, siblings, Daughter Diane, Son Dennis, Grand Son Jimmy as well as both his first and second wives, Margaret and Corey.
He is survived by his sons, Dan (Sherri), Doug, David (Nanette), Dwayne as well as many grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, step sons and sister Yvonne.
Hilleard was born in Star City Sask. Where his family lived on their farm until they made the move west to North Vancouver.
It was here that he met and married his first wife, Margaret. They had 6 children and lived the majority of the time in the Comox Valley.
He was a hard working man who spent many years working away on Heavy Construction projects throughout BC including Peace River, Mica, Revelstoke Dams as well as some of the major Highway projects in the province.
During his second marriage to Corey, Hilleard lived with and helped to raise her 3 boys on the lower mainland. During this time he made the move away from the camp life construction industry and settled into working in the movie industry with the Teamsters.
Any spare time he had was spent enjoying the thing he was most passionate about, horses. Hilleard loved riding, training and working with horses. He taught his children, grand children and anyone else who was interested how to ride and take care of horses. Today there are still a few who love to ride and his passion lives on in them.
It was a shock and difficult time when at the age of 69 Hilleard was diagnosed with Dementia. He was cared for by his family until approx. 8 years ago when he moved into residential care at Glacier View Lodge in Courtenay. He was well taken care of here and loved by many of the staff. His family wishes to thank and recognize the extra special efforts made by his care givers over the years both from VIHA Home support and Glacier View.
