In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that we, the Beddow's family, announce the passing of Ivan Beddows, on June 30th 2025, in Courtenay. Ivan was born August 19th, 1930 in Woodstock ON where he lived through the Great Depression and WW2. Shortly after the war he and his father Roland migrated to BC, where Ivan would spend the rest of his life. As a young man Ivan found employment on the CPR near Revelstoke and this experience initiated a lifelong obsession with all things train related. In 1972 Ivan married the love of his life, Cora. They remained happily married and deeply in love for 53 years.
In the early 1980s he and Cora started their foster home which would become their true legacy. In over two decades, they fostered dozens of children and adopted the first 3 children who came to them. Ivan always accepted people for who they were and loved those kids unconditionally. Many of these children are still in touch and still call Ivan Dad today. For his extensive volunteer work, he was named One of the 100 Citizens of the Century of Courtenay.
He is survived by his wife Cora, sons; John (Theresa), Mathew, Kelvin, daughters; Debra and Leona and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ivan will also be missed by many others who loved him, family, friends and many children he gave his heart to over the years.
The family would like to thank Dr. Langhans, many care aides and nurses from Comox Valley home support, who helped care for Ivan these past years. We're eternally thankful to all of you!
Funeral will be at St. John the Divine Anglican Church on 5th St in Courtenay on Saturday July 26, 2025 at 11:00 am.
Tea to follow at the Wachiay Friendship Centre.
