In Loving Memory ~ It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John Andrew McCabe on the morning of September 6, 2021, at the North Island Hospital, Comox Valley.
John was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Comox on May 25, 1948.
In 1965 John joined the Navy and had a rewarding career. He retired in 1978 as an NCO.
He joined the Coquitlam Fire Department in August 1978 and was very proud of the 30 years of dedicated service, retiring as Captain and Honour Guard Member in May of 2008.
Never one to sit still, John spent his "retirement" years teaching Swift Water Rescue in northern B.C. to Indigenous people; and soon after started his own successful security business in Fort McMurray.
John is predeceased by father Felix McCabe in 1987, mother Nan McConochie (Bill) in 2014, and brother Kevin McCabe in 2015.
He is survived by his wife, Karen McCabe (nee Anthony); his children, Autumn McCabe (John), Brian McCabe (Nicole), Danny McCabe; stepchildren, Rachelle Tasse虂, Rod Tasse虂; mother- in-law Geraldine Anthony; grandchildren, Brittany, Chanel, Austin, Brandon, Drew, and four great-grandchildren.
He also leaves behind his sister Sharon (John) and nephew and niece Terry and Shelley.
A Memorial Service will be held by the City of Coquitlam Fire Department at a later date.
