In loving memory of our Mother ~

Nancy Joan Field (née Curley) passed away peacefully on March 12, 2025, surrounded by love. She's now reunited with our Dad, her beloved husband Bill, who passed away in 2006.

Mom was predeceased by her first-born daughter Judy, her siblings Rita and Bob, her sister-in-law Terry, brothers-in-law Harry, Earle, and Roger, and by her longtime friends June and Milton Bingham.

Known as Nancy to some and Joan to most, she leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Nancy (Murray), Deb (Jane), and Bill (Barbara); her devoted companion Bob Mossey; her grandchildren: Kerri (Matt), Mandy (Keith), Shelby (Lee), Lisa, and Antonia; her great-grandchildren: Jordyn, Averie, Katleho, Tsepiso, Tumelo, Damen, and Makenna; and her siblings: Margaret, Tom, Paul, Sheila, and their families.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Michael Neufeld, Nurse Kim and the staff at Comox Medical Clinic for their exceptional care of Nancy Joan over many years, as well as to dear friends Reta and Bruce Walls, and Denise and Ed Hendricks, whose friendship and support meant so much.

Words cannot fully express the love, appreciation, and gratitude the family feels for Deb, Jane, and Bob, whose care and companionship filled her life with joy and enabled her to remain in the comfort of her home.

Born to Matthew and Winnifred Curley, Joan would tell heartwarming stories of her childhood in their hardworking Ottawa family. After graduating, she began an apprenticeship as a film editor with the National Film Board of Canada, later continuing her career with CBC and Alpha Cine Motion Picture Laboratory in Vancouver. She contributed to numerous productions including McCabe and Mrs. Miller, and the long-running television series The Beachcombers.

Joan met Bill on her way home from church in 1949. He walked her home—pushing his motorcycle—marking the beginning of a life filled with love, adventure and travel. They were married on August 5, 1950.

Bill served in the Canadian Air Force, and together they enjoyed years stationed in Ottawa, Germany, and Comox. Later they lived in Coquitlam and Sproat Lake, before ultimately returning to Comox, the place that always felt like home.

Mom had a passion for travel—both the experience and the planning—and Mom and Dad spent many years exploring the world. In later years, Mom continued that love of travel with Bob.

A dedicated volunteer throughout her life, Mom gave her time and energy to causes close to her heart, including political campaigns, church groups, hospital auxiliaries, and the Legion. She had a remarkable ability to balance her many commitments, always impressing family with her energy and organizational grace.

As Mom said several days before she passed, family meant everything to her. We will remember her as a devoted wife, companion, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend—someone who was loving, compassionate, kind, funny, feisty, and refreshingly no-nonsense. She filled our lives with warmth and joy, and we are deeply grateful to have had her love and presence for so many years.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Comox Marina Park.
