August 29, 1948 - May 22, 2025
In loving memory ~
"He has cast his final line, and now rests by still waters, where the sun always shines, and the fish always bite."
Our beloved father, Ross Hilt (Sr) passed away on May 22, 2025, at his home in Black Creek, BC at the age of 76. He will be deeply missed by his loving partner of 30 years (Sheila Rothgordt), his daughter Leah Hilt and his son Clinton Hilt (Jessica) and his grandchildren Dayton, Memphis, Xavier, Lochlan and Sawyer, Sheila's family, his ex-wife Jennifer Story, and the extensive 'Jarrett Clan.'
Dad was born August 29, 1948, in Nanaimo, BC to Rosebud and Jack Hilt and he was their adored only child. His childhood instilled in him a love of the outdoors, fishing and animals and he passed these loves onto all three of his children. He was gifted his first dog when he was 1.5 years old which he named 'Spottie' and he continued to love and have dogs throughout his adult life. Dad trained and worked as a heavy-duty mechanic and had a passion for all things machine and was known to be able to MacGyver anything to find a solution to a mechanical problem. He passed along his mechanical abilities to his sons Ross Jr, and Clinton. He was proud of the fact he shared his birthday with his eldest grandson Dayton.
He was a good man, a man of ideas, a tinkerer, a fixer, an entrepreneur, and a dreamer. He loved Clint Eastwood, western films, Louis L'Amour books and faithfully read and searched for deals aka 'treasures' in the Auto Trader. Sadly, the last few years of Dad's life were not easy as he valiantly tried to overcome cancer. In the face of this adversity, he maintained a strong will and a sense of humour, cracking jokes with his family and those providing him care. Dad could be stubborn and despite his strong will to live, the cancer eventually took him from us.
Dad was predeceased by his eldest son Ross Alexander Hilt Jr and his parents, grandparents and many of his aunts and uncles from both the Hilt and Cunningham families.
A heartfelt thank you to Shirley and Johnny, all the family, friends, nurses and doctors who supported, visited and cared for Dad while he was unwell. He was incredibly grateful for the care he received, and happy to be home with Sheila in his final days. Special thank you to Jenn and team at Piercy's for their passionate and professional care.
