Predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, Red Edgar, and son David.

Shirley's love and generous spirit was limitless and unconditional. She was a dedicated member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and was the current serving president of her chapter. She was a long serving employee of BC Tel (43 years) and until the last month of her life she never missed a lunch and get together with her BC Tel Colleagues, even though she had been retired for 24 years.

She was a committed member of St. George's Church, serving on the fellowship committee and congregation care team, as well as an active member of the UCW, and a passionate volunteer in the soup kitchen. Shirley also spent hundreds of hours visiting the elderly and ill at Glacier View Lodge and St Joseph's Hospital.

When Shirley wasn't sharing her spirit with the community she was giving her heart to her family and friends. Shirley was the core of her large and extended family; the Edgar/Leathwood's. She and Red hosted countless barbecues, birthday parties, luncheons, holiday celebrations, and Sunday roast beef and Yorkshire pudding dinners. Everyone was always welcome on Gartley Point Road. No social gathering was too large for The Edgars to take on and host with beauty and grace. Even when confronted with her illness, Shirley welcomed others into her home to share memories and stories. In her final days she reminded us all every day that she "was the lucky one" because she "had been blessed" to have been "given such a beautiful family and incredible friends".

Shirley was a long time Comox Valley resident and it will never be the same without her. Her presence will be missed by the community but her spirit will live eternally in all of us. Shirley was an inspiration and a role model to many and reminded us all how to live a rich and full life with care, compassion, empathy and love. In lieu of owers, Shirley would love for us all to do something kind for a friend in her honour. She would also remind us all to try not to get overwhelmed when life gets tough as "this too shall pass".

Shirley is survived by her daughter Susan (Tom), her granddaughters Shea and Haley, and her chosen grandchildren Will and Molly, as well as many supportive family members.

The family is extremely grateful and appreciative for all the immeasurable love and support from friends in the community far too numerous to mention.

A Celebration of Shirley's Life will be held Saturday August 25, 2018, Saint George's Church, Courtenay at 2 pm.
