The following is our latest blog entry to our 60 in 60 challenge. For those of you who missed our October column (see bit.ly/1LqaMVq) Erica and I have embarked on a journey to lose 60 pounds (combined) in 60 weeks (combined). We have weekly online updates and monthly submissions into the Record newspaper. It’s been 26 weeks since we started.

Terry: So, should we start with the bad news, or with the good news?

Erica: With the bad.

T: The bad news is it’s going to be very hard for us to actually make our 60 pounds in 60 weeks.

E: Yikes! We only have four weeks left to lose 10.8 pounds between us. What’s the good news?

T: The good news is: If we keep up the pace we’ve had for the last two weeks the goal is still attainable.  We have lost 2.8 pounds in each of the last two weeks. And now we are at 49.8 total pounds lost since the beginning.

E: That is good news. Not only about the 49.8 pounds, but about all the inches we have lost too.

T: I actually had to update my wardrobe after a co-worker commented that I needed new pants.

E: Yes, thank you Liz!

T: I bought a few new pairs of slacks and am now the same size I was 12 years ago. What about you? Do you have new jeans?

E: No, you just don’t recognize them because it has been years since I could wear them!

T: Last week I was a little bit concerned. I couldn’t exercise at all because of a back issue. But I still lost a considerable amount of weight simply by eating sensibly. Who knew?

E: I think most diet gurus knew!

T: Hmm.

E: We are going to have to be very self-controlled this weekend in Edmonton though.

T: Yes. But I am looking forward to the visit. It’s been a lot of pounds since anybody there has seen us.

E: Oh yes. This all started when you returned from your trip to Ireland with your brothers. I think they will see a big difference.

T: You’ve had a bit of an exercise breakthrough in the last 2 weeks or so.

E: You caught me choosing the elliptical rather than the treadmill.

T: On more than one occasion.

E: I actually prefer it now. Or rather I should say, I don’t have to spend quite so long on the elliptical as I do on the treadmill to get the same or even more benefit. I’m just being efficient with my time...and getting to the sauna more quickly.

T: I think you are under-estimating your level of physical fitness.

E: Well, it is true that I can now stay on the thing for much longer than five minutes without feeling like I am going to expire!

T: A 30 minute workout on the elliptical is a good workout for someone half your age. You are doing great.

E: It`s a good workout for me too (at my age).

T: So onward to the last 4 weeks.

E: Onward and downwards (NOT upwards).

T&E: The final countdown begins!
