MY SON-IN-LAW told me a heartwarming story. He was following a UB Diving vehicle, when it stopped at an intersection on Cliffe Avenue, waiting for an elderly lady to make her way across. She was using a cane and appeared to be having a hard time with her footing. As my son-in-law sat behind the UB Diving vehicle, he noticed the driver get out, walk up to the lady and offer her his arm. He watched the man walk her slowly and carefully to the other side of the road. He then got back into his vehicle and drove away. He doesn鈥檛 know who the man was, but it made quite an impact on him. It made him think that if we all slowed down and took the time to notice others, and if maybe we just took the time to do just one kind thing every day, we might enrich our lives more than we could imagine.

A BEEF to many of the staff at the new hospital. Having spent many days with my wife there, I am pleased with the free parking but I am ashamed that some of the staff who can now park for free continually park in the best and closest spots! I believe the fourth floor of the parkade is reserved for staff! I witnessed many staff parking at the front doors and on the lowest level of parkade at the start of their shifts. Have some compassion for the patients and their family members. They don鈥檛 want to be there, so make an effort to leave the most accessible spots for them.
THE NEW HOSPITAL is so very well done! Thanks again to Courtenay and Campbell River councils for the successful work on unpaid parking 鈥� it鈥檚 one less thing to stress about for the ill and caregivers. On time, on budget and good quality.
NO PARKING FEE at the new hospital. Yeah, except there are no parking spots to find at anytime. I had to drive right to the top of the parkade while looking for a spot to go for X-rays. To my surprise, at the top is a sign that reads 鈥淒octors and staff only. Yet only three cars were parked there. When I walked all the way down to the hospital, I saw numerous people with uniforms and lunch bags getting out of their vehicles. I guess the free parking on grounds is for staff only 鈥� not the elderly population in the Valley that need the services. I鈥檇 rather pay than having to walk a mile to get in.
I JUST WANTED to say thank you to the Comox Valley road maintenance crews that so nicely circled the many potholes with red paint last spring. As winter is now approaching, it would be very kind of them to redo the paint. It gives us poor drivers a fighting chance to avoid them.
THANK YOU to all the staff at the McDonalds on Cliffe Avenue. For the last 18-plus months I have used the drive-thru to purchase the only meal that my invalid better half would eat. Everyday you all made my life a little brighter with your smiles and cheerful banter. Sadly, my wife succumbed to her malady and I will no longer be ordering a Big Mac with small fries and vinegar. Again, thank you.
EVER SEE ONE of those signs mentioning herbicide use? Do you really know what this stuff is? It鈥檚 a killer spray. Our local logging companies have been using herbicide for 75 years on Vancouver Island along logging roads, easements, and hydro lines. Golf courses and agricultural lands use it also. Just ask my father, who has lived on Vancouver Island for 60 years. I am an avid outdoorsman and my family has been on Vancouver Island and throughout B.C. for decades. We hunt in an area where a considerable amount of herbicide is used. Everything is dead. There are no bugs, bees, mice, birds, nor game. Not even a track. You have to walk 100鈥�200 metres into the bush before you might start to see wildlife. Maybe there is an opportunity to educate people on the devastation caused by herbicide.

BEEF TO THOSE employers that do not have the decency to let job applicants know whether or not they were successful. Years ago, you would be called and given the reason why you did not receive a job. Feedback is important. A lack of decency is abundant in the Comox Valley.
BOUQUETS TO EVERYONE who helped me when my van died on 5th Street, in the middle of school rush hour traffic in the afternoon. I had a complete melt down and panic attack and am incredibly grateful to the kind police officer who arranged for a tow truck, and to the young gentleman who offered to push my van for me (we couldn鈥檛 because of the incline). And to the tow truck driver for being so kind and patient with me.
BEEFS TO THE jerk drivers, who when passing me told me to 鈥渟mile, beautiful.鈥� You guys can get smashed alongside my van when it goes to the wreckers. Way to go adding triggers to someone who was already having a panic attack at the time. Women don鈥檛 want to be told to smile by you, thank-you very much.
