THE INDOOR SWIMMING POOL is a washing machine where outside clothing has been worn. Four weeks ago, my family and I were enjoying a Saturday afternoon swim when four boys jumped in wearing T-shirts. Another parent became disgruntled and asked me if that was allowed. Not sure, I asked a lifeguard who informed me that this was OK. Last Saturday, while observing similar dress from the viewing area, I noticed under the cashier wicket Pool Rules which included “No outside clothes to be worn in pool.” I inquired at the front desk if this was allowed and pointed out the “rules” on the sign. “Well, maybe the lifeguard was new” I was told. This does not fly with me, and I asked who I could speak with about this. I was not given sufficient information to address this ongoing problem, so am writing out this soggy beef.

A BOUQUET TO WHOEVER can explain to me what is exactly going on in the dispute over the gas pipeline. The company has attained all the legal authority necessary to do what they doing and have a legal injunction to do it So they are not the issue. Consequently then I would suggest that the real issue is who has the legal authority and therefore the power of attorney to represent the Wet’sewet’en people. Is it the tribal council or is it the hereditary chiefs? Until that question is answered there is no way the issue can be solved.

The only thing worse than beefs and bouquets for non-fans is having to hear someone read select beefs out loud during lunchtime at work. This brings unwelcome outside stress into a place where one is supposed to be able to unwind and refuel for the long afternoon ahead.

GOOD NEWS FOR THE Comox Valley. Under its new ownership, the local Nissan dealership is true to its advertised word that customer service is a top priority. After a highly unsatisfactory and alienating experience elsewhere, I went to Courtenay Nissan and was offered precisely the solution I was seeking. No hassles, no runaround. Rather, a refreshingly constructive and co-operative approach that will bring me to this dealership for future servicing of my vehicle.

KUDOS TO SLEGG LUMBER (Comox) and especially to staff member Jeremy for the outstanding customer service offered to me in conjunction with my sun tunnel problem in early February. Jeremy stopped what he was doing and devoted over fifteen minutes to showing me what was needed and how to accomplish the solution to my problem. Jeremy’s assistance has definitely won his employer a new customer.

I WISH TO SEND Dr. Danelle Chan a very nice Bouquet,a Dentist in Comox. A prime example of gentle caring, patient work and painless procedures! She explains all work and does it in a top-notch manner,with the latest in technology. She has two assistants, Sara and Rona, who are very skilled in their work. For decades I have cringed at every dental visit. These last three visits have been an actual pleasure for me. Thanks to Dr. Danelle and her outstanding team.

TO ALL THE ignorant people who can’t get in the correct lane coming from Comox and crossing the 17th St bridge and instead just cut off the cars that are in the correct lane as we make the turn through the light! Yes! I am talking to the gray-haired man in the blue car, and all the others I see cut people off. If you’re going straight through at the 17th intersection then don’t be in the inside lane and cross three lanes of traffic! Plan ahead, I don’t need to be in an accident so you can get where you’re going two seconds sooner.

I WANT TO GIVE OUT a huge plate of free food to the new girl working at the New Creek Café in Cumberland. She is absolutely amazing. Always fun to be around, even when the place is packed, she always has a smile on her face. She is the reason I would come back.

TO THE MILITARY POLICE officer pulling over the lady at the four-way on Balmoral Avenue in Comox on Feb. 14. Was the machine gun necessary? Really? This is not a war zone, what’s up with the camo? Put that machine gun away.

MAJOR BEEF TO certain car dealerships who treat their customers like absolute trash. They disregard limits, preferences and morals to try to make a quick buck. If you shop local, double check your credit - they will run your info even without your permission!

BEEF TO OLD-FASHIONED hair salons that charge according to gender. It is unfair that a woman’s hair cut costs significantly more than a man’s. Hair has no gender. Men and women both vary in the hair services required. Pricing should reflect the services required by each head of hair. As customers we are willing to pay based on your time, style complexity, product used, your expertise, etc. My gender is irrelevant and should not be a factor in the price. Set your prices based on services rather than sex. To do otherwise is out-dated, sexist and offensive.

ON MY LUNCH BREAK last week my co-worker and I took advantage of the beautiful weather and went for a walk. I had to pick up a few groceries so we went to a local grocery store. Before leaving I dropped by to pick up my favorite coffee and the barista told me about a sale on beans. It was buy one get one free, I said sounds good. I got my coffee drink and my co-worker and I left chatting away. We were almost back to work (about seven blocks away) when the beautiful, kind, amazing barista drove up bedside us and jumped out of her car. She handed me a bag with the coffee beans I had said yes to! I was in shock, awe and extreme gratitude. I pray her kindness and thoughtfulness comes back to her in abundance!

BIG BEEF TO the province of BC for delay and neglect in responding to flooded homes and businesses at Halalt First Nation in Cowichan Valley. One wonders if Prince Harry, Meghan and their infant son Archie had been living in that area and were forced to live in a two-bit hotel if their home was flooded and deemed unsafe to occupy, would this same delay and neglect occur for them?

A HUGE BEEF TO the Member of Parliament for the Comox Valley. I thought MPs are elected to represent their constituents? Perhaps not. I requested a meeting to discuss an issue with a federal department. Request denied, it appears the MP is hiding behind the skirts of his secretary!

THIS GIANT BOUQUET GOES to all of the older employees in Comox. I have lived here all of my life and have noticed that more and more employees are mature, seniors probably. I think this has to do with them not wanting to retire, maybe wanting to keep busy, earn some extra cash, be social and feel valued. I sure do appreciate the good work ethic and great customer service from these people. I especially want to thank the older employees at Sleggs, The Cottage, Smittys, Salvation Army Boutique, Johns Grocery and the Rexall. They are always cheerful, friendly and take the time to help and listen. Of course there are some great younger employees in town! But, this is not about them. I think all young employees could learn from the older ones. Hope they are paying attention!

A BOUQUET TO THE lovely cashier at John’s Grocer who came over to give my tantruming toddler a sticker and distracted her from the store’s stuffed toy that she wouldn’t let go. It had been a long day and I had two tired and hungry kids. You knew just how to help out and it put us all in a better mood. Thank you.

A BIG BOUQUET TO Complete Auto in Comox. I didn’t have a car wheel problem, I had a problem with my dog’s wheelchair and I couldn’t get one of the wheels off so I could flip it to even out the wear on the tire no matter how hard I tried. I took it to them and they were able (with some difficulty) to get the tire off. Probably not every day they get to help out with a doggy wheelchair. Did this at no charge. My dog and I thank you.

I’D LIKE TO SEND a huge bouquet to the man who refereed the U16-U18 Boys Select game on Sunday, Feb. 9. He was kind, encouraging and an all-around great ref. Being the AR (assistant referee) for the game, I thought it was very nice of him to come talk to me at halftime and give me some wonderful advice that helped me then, and will help me enormously in the future. He was patient and explained to me anything I didn’t understand. I’m only 13, so I haven’t had much experience with being an AR and I wasn’t very confident with making calls at first, but this ref helped me a lot and now I feel a lot more confident when a call is dependent on me. So thank you so much, and I really appreciate the advice!
