Although the post will be anonymous, include a contact name and phone number, because there’s a draw every week for a meal for two from Dairy Queen. This week’s winner is Carl Bitonti.
BOUQUETS TO ERIK Eriksson, who announced he is running to be mayor of Courtenay. He’s a good guy — an electrician union guy who solved problems at the Fields Sawmill, which provided good paying jobs for many in the Comox Valley for six decades. Now logs go offshore and offshore buyers pressure our real estate our for young folks here.
THIS IS A BEEF to those who are upset when a politician acts according to his or her conscience, and not their wishes. On Dec. 10 1948, Canada signed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), which in Article 18 states that “everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.” Unfortunately, these rights are rapidly eroding in Canada. Children are forced to attend sex education classes against their parents’ wishes, doctors lost privileges for refusing to do abortions, and currently doctors and medical staff are under pressure to eitherabide by the MAiD (Medical Assistance in Dying) legislation, or risk losing their employment. Also, two of the three major political parties in Canada will not accept pro-life candidates. Perhaps Canadians should consider asking Parliament to withdraw from the UDHR. Finally, in order to show its belief in diversity, and money being no problem, Courtenay council should dedicate crosswalks to other groups such as Canadian vets, First Nations and the homeless for starters.
THE MERVILLE GRANDMOTHERS give a huge bouquet to all the people who donated fabric and/or made purchases at our recent Fabulous Fabric Sale. The proceeds will go a long way to supporting African grandmothers raising their orphaned grandchildren. Last chance to pick up some of this fine fabrics will be at “Fiesta, World Craft Bazaar” 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Florence Filberg Centre on Nov. 18 and 19.
IT WAS A BOUQUET to us that I contacted Prestige Video Transfer, where I had over a hundred slides and snapshots transferred to a disk. I can show the disk through my computer or with a DVD player via the TV.
A BUNCH OF FLAT tires to the car dealership I use. I took my vehicle in for servicing and when I was walking out of the building some of the employees were smoking in front of the shop doors. I walked around the side of the building only to see more people smoking at the shop doors. I believe in B.C. that if you must smoke, you have to be at least six meters away from any door, window, or air intake. I feel sorry for the employees that don’t smoke and have to work in that environment. I’m wondering if WorkSafe BC actually enforces the no smoking law.
TO THE MOTORCYCLIST wearing a “Veteran Canada” patch on his jacket while heading down the hill on Guthrie Road, passing the farm on Nov. 3 at about 4:15 p.m. You passed two vehicles at a speed of 80-plus km/h. That was really cool, and shooting the finger at us as you were passing was an especially endearing gesture. Keep up the stellar advertising for all motorcyclists and veterans alike.
A HUGE BOUQUET to the downtown merchants for their wonderful hospitality on Halloween. I followed my daughter and grandson from store to store downtown on Oct. 31 and was amazed by the generous merchants and the happy smiles they all had. It was a wonderful family event made possible by local merchants. I hope everyone remembers that these merchants need to be supported in return. Please note that I am not a merchant and nor am I related to or personally know any of these merchants. I was just so impressed, and I can’t wait till the Christmas parade.
THURSDAY WAS OUR first cold, snowy, wet, nasty day and as I was clearing the snow off my car in front of St. George’s United Church, a very kind lady offered me her Halloween candy and a generous donation for our St. George’s Pantry. The volunteers at the pantry would like to thank you for your kindness and God’s blessing to you.
HUGE BOUQUETS TO everyone involved in Rainbow Youth Theatre’s recent production of All Shook Up. A special thanks to the multi-talented cast and musicians for a very entertaining musical experience.
BOUQUETS to the new bakery in town. True Grain Bakery on 10th Street is such a gem. The new owners are great, the bread is delicious and the fresh baked treats are out of this world. The grain is grown in B.C. and I believe they mill it themselves. Businesses like this are just what the Valley needs.
IT IS INTERESTING that the B.C. NDP seems poised to cancel the Site C damn and hydro project. That would be nothing new to the B.C. NDP, which killed the Kemano Completion project in the 1990s. The KCP would have generated almost as much power with no new dam, no farm land flooded and would have included a cold water release facility to protect migrating salmon. They killed the best hydro project in the world, but Site C may be just be a Liberal white elephant. It seems that all three provincial parties only look for votes. Who is looking after our future?
SHAME ON THE driver who reversed into my Volkswagen Jetta on Friday, Nov. 2 in the parking lot behind the Potters Place Gallery and Delicado’s. You took off shamelessly and without leaving a note. I know these things happen, but it is not too late to do the right thing. Take responsibility and leave a note for me at the Potters Place Gallery.
