Dear editor, The recent major windstorms caused significant damage and discomfort to a great many in the Comox Valley.I think it's important to pause a moment and thank everyone who rose to the occasion and gave so much time and effort to help all those affected. The residents of the northern part of the area I represent (Puntledge-Black Creek — Area C) in the Comox Valley Regional District were especially hard hit with property damage, hydro outages and road closures. Comox Valley emergency program co-ordinator Mike Fournier, Oyster River volunteer fire department chief Niels Holbek and his crew, the Comox Valley ground search and rescue, and of course, the B.C. Hydro crews, all responded quickly and worked tirelessly through the day and night to restore some sense of normalcy to the situation. It is easy in this day and age to take so much for granted and, when things go wrong, to look outside for who to blame or for someone to come and "make it right." What we saw was the strength of the community and the character of its people in a moment of crisis. Bravo and "good show." If a community is only as good as its people, then we've got the best community anywhere! Edwin Grieve,Editor's note: Edwin Grieve is the chair of the Comox Valley Regional District.
