Shame on BCTF for affecting students with strike

Dear editor, UBC has announced they will accept grade 11 transcripts from 2011 to admit B.C. students in 2012.

Dear editor,UBC has announced they will accept grade 11 transcripts from 2011 to admit B.C. students in 2012.Wonderful! A student steps up their effort in final year, works his/her butt off in Grade 12 and must hope that marks from the previous year might get them accepted into post-secondary studies. Fortunately, UVic and SFU have so far agreed to accept marks from the Ministry. Universities in other provinces may not be so sympathetic.I would suggest this situation is not in the best interest of the students our teachers are supposed to support. Our teachers and their union should be ashamed of their collective unprofessional conduct this year. They claim it is in the students' interest but the reality is that they are placing their quest for a 15-per-cent wage increase, advancement based upon the union credo of seniority rather than merit and demands for smaller class sizes on the backs of their students. It seems to me the single item on the table worthy of support is class composition, which speaks to more resources for special needs. We know a minority of teachers abhor their union's shameless tactic but unfortunately the majority have prevailed and our students are paying the price. Shame!W. Hunter,Courtenay
