As many of our readers know, I have been living in the Valley for about a year now, having moved over from the Lower Mainland for the opportunity to work at the Record.
Along with me came my dog, Bosch. I’ve spent the last year trying to get him out and about as much as possible, get his little nose sniffing and just have good ‘ole fun adventures.
But where is your favourite place to take your dog on adventures?
Bosch loves the smell of the ocean and will actively pull me into the water when we get close. He doesn’t swim, just wades in up to his chest and sniffs like the curious little guy that he is.
His love of the ocean and all ocean-like smells first surfaced while we were on a road trip to one of my favourite places in the world - Cannon Beach, Oregon. While staying in a little bungalow half a block from the ocean, Bosch showed me he was not afraid of the water. I had attempted to get him in the water before, but he seemed resistant. At Cannon Beach, he walked straight into the ocean.
We drove a few kilometres south of Cannon Beach to Hug Cove and there he decided to climb a rock face under a waterfall. It was clear, this boy liked water. It only took him five years to show me.
So now that Bosch has made his water-loving ways known, I’m indulging him with visits to water whenever I can.
When we hit up Goose Spit, he is a proper gentleman and sniffs the air fully before plunging forward into the water.
At Seal Bay, he rock climbs before the pull to the water happens.
At Kye Bay, he meanders back and forth along the sand and into the waves.
When we do the walk through the woods around Nymph Falls, he tries to pull me down into the water, but I have been able to keep him from jumping in and possibly getting lost in the tide.
This is all to say that I have been actively taking Bosch out to new spots to explore and satiate his lust for nose sniffs and water up to his chest.
Now I’m asking you, readers of the Record, where does your dog like to go to explore water? Keep in mind, Bosch is a smaller dog and can’t handle hard riptides (I think…).
Let me know where to take him next - raynee.novak@comoxvalleyrecord.com.
