KINGSTON, ON – Brad Gunter of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack has been named to the CIS All-Rookie team for men’s volleyball.

Gunter was named to the All-Rookie team at the CIS Awards Breakfast held at Queen’s University, the site of the CIS championships.

The 6’7” native of Courtenay becomes the fifth WolfPack player to be named to the team. He follows in the footsteps of Robin Schoebel (Monaco), Gord Perrin (Creston) Josh Boruck (Revelstoke)  and Kevin Tillie (Cagnes Sur Mer, France).

“Brad had a great year,” said TRU head coach Pat Hennelly.  “He was injured in the second half of the season. Before that, he was exceptional against a good Stanford team in January and I thought he was

poised to have a great second half.  He was our best outside hitter for long stretches of the first half through some very tough weekends.”

Gunter wound up 16 th in the Canada West in kills (3.00 per game) and points (3.40 per game).

Hennelly went onto say  “ I believe Brad will have a great career here at TRU and he is certainly in the same class as our previous top rookies.  This year in the Canada West, there were some very strong first year players who will be a pleasure to watch in coming years.  I have coached coached Brad for two summers with Team BC and now his first year in the CIS, I think he keeps improving and expanding his game.”

Hennelly states that Gunter is a very gifted offensive player and reminds him of Gord Perrin, who is now playing professionally in Turkey and is a member of Canada’s Senior “A” National Team.
