The Comox Valley Minor Hockey Association is helping Campbell River while union workers strike at the Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex.
Coaches and players from both towns in various age groups have hit the ice at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.
鈥淲e鈥檙e doing the right thing for hockey, getting their kids out with our kids and pushing the good word of hockey,鈥� CVMHA coaching co-ordinator Cam Knox said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e excited about having kids get together. It鈥檚 been a great result so far.鈥�
Coaches have been able to share some of their knowledge as they work on skill development with players.
鈥淲e鈥檙e also looking to build our Tier 1 program in the North Island,鈥� Knox said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 been something I鈥檝e been trying to focus on. We really wanted to extend that information out to Campbell River and some of the surrounding areas. It would help keep kids at home. A lot of our high-end kids are moving away.鈥�
