The Comox Valley Minor Hockey Association is helping Campbell River while union workers strike at the Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex.
Coaches and players from both towns in various age groups have hit the ice at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.
“We’re doing the right thing for hockey, getting their kids out with our kids and pushing the good word of hockey,” CVMHA coaching co-ordinator Cam Knox said. “We’re excited about having kids get together. It’s been a great result so far.”
Coaches have been able to share some of their knowledge as they work on skill development with players.
“We’re also looking to build our Tier 1 program in the North Island,” Knox said. “It’s been something I’ve been trying to focus on. We really wanted to extend that information out to Campbell River and some of the surrounding areas. It would help keep kids at home. A lot of our high-end kids are moving away.”
