Courtenay school goes 1-3 at AAA girls basketball provincials

The Mark Isfeld senior girls basketball team went 1-3 at the triple-A provincial tournament last weekend in Langley.

In their opening game, the girls lost 82-36 to R.A. McMath of Richmond, which went on to place fourth at the 16-team tournament.

The second game was a 49-36 loss to Vernon.

“This game was close the whole way through,” Ice coach Sherri Bohmer said.

Isfeld then defeated Charles Hayes Secondary of Prince Rupert by a score of 63-52. Team captain Myah Erikson, a Grade 12 point guard, led the Ice with 24 points. Harriette Cunningham, a Grade 11 forward, scored 22 points for Isfeld.

The girls lost their final game 59-45 to North Island rival Ballenas Secondary of Parksville.
