Maple Bay's Madison Savory broke into the competitive water skiing scene quickly after taking up the sport in 2020.
As a 12-year-old, she won gold at the 2022 B.C. Summer Games. Then, in 2024 she earned a gold medal in slalom at the B.C. provincials, gold medals in both slalom and trick at the 2024 westerns, and two silvers at the 2024 nationals.
After finishing off her 2024 season ranking in the top 10 in both of her events at the 2024 IWWF Waterski Pan American Championship in Bogota, Colombia last October, Savory has maintained her elite pace this water ski season.
Savory placed first in the U14 girls division's tricks and slalom events at the WSWA Alberta Provincial Water Ski Championships July 4-5 at Shalom Park Water Ski Center in Edmonton, where she trains in the summer.
She followed that up with silver in both the U17 girls slalom and U17 girls tricks events at the the Junior Canadian Open Water Ski Championship July 18-20, also at Shalom Park. It was a significant accomplishment as at just 13 years old, she was competing against water skiers upwards of three years older than her.
Next up, Savory has her eye trained on the 2025 Canadian National Water Ski Championships at Shalom Park Aug. 5-10.
"I had an injury in the spring and just got back from that three weeks ago, so I'm not exactly where I want to be, but am confident about nationals," Savory explained. "I have been working really hard the last couple of weeks to crush my previous personal best."
The young water skier isn't showing any signs of slowing down.
"Next year is a PanAm year so I am working hard towards that again and have a goal to work towards U17 Junior Worlds as well.
