Former Okanagan Sun linebacker suited up for the BC Lions over the weekend, making his CFL debut

A former Okanagan Sun football player saw his hard work pay off over the weekend.

Jacob Bond made his CFL debut on Sunday, July 13, for the BC Lions.

The 6'1", 215-pound linebacker played a few snaps during the Lions 32-14 win over the Edmonton Elks.

Bond was recently elevated to the active roster, after an ankle injury sidelined him for the first two months of the CFL season.

A native of Nelson, Bond played his high-school football in Kamloops, and suited up for the Sun in 2024. During the team's undefeated British Columbia Football Conference (BCFC) season, Bond led the team with 49 tackles, including a game-high nine tackles and one forced fumble in the BCFC national semifinal against the Regina Thunder. He was named the league's defensive player of the year.

The 22-year-old joined the Lions as a territorial exemption ahead of the 2025 training camp in Kamloops. He was released on May 29, before being signed again on July 11.

The BC Lions' next game is Saturday, July 19 against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
