Mark R. Isfeld Secondary School is the Vancouver Island Boy’s AAA basketball champions, securing the title with a dominant 73-53 win over host Carihi Tyees Saturday.
Courtenay’s Isfield qualified for the final through a 104-97 triple overtime victory over crosstown rival G.P. Vanier. Isfeld also won their opener over Stelly’s by a score of 80-59.
Carihi qualified for the final on the strength of a 76-34 opening win over Victoria High, followed buy a 70-66 victory over Nanaimo’s Wellington.
Vanier secured third place with a 68-59 victory over Wellington on Saturday.
Advancing to the B.C. provincial championships March 7-10 in Langley, in order of Island final placement, are 1. Isfeld, 2. Carihi, 3. Vanier.
Tournament MVP was Isfeld’s Thaskani Mtawali. Best Defensive Player was Carihi’s Jonah Shankar and the Most Sportsmalike Team was Victoria High.
