Fifth-year senior Ryan MacKinnon is having a stellar final season of CIS basketball with the UVic Vikes.
The Highland Raiders alum has been lighting up the scoreboard with the first-place Canada West Vikes, who are 9-1 in league play. "Ryan is a big reason, leading the team with a 21-points per game average," noted G.P. Vanier Towhees basketball coach Larry Street, who was at the McKinnon Gym last weekend to take in the Vikes' weekend homestand.
"On Friday night Ryan's three-pointer to tie with 13 seconds left wasn't enough as free throws carried the University of Saskatchewan Huskies to an 86-81 victory," Street said, noting MacKinnon had 21 points.
"On Saturday, the Vikes hosted fourth-ranked University of Alberta Golden Bears and came away with an 83-77 victory, highlighted by Ryan's aggressive play to the hoop to draw fouls, his four steals late in the second half, his four incredible assists, and four key rebounds, rounded out by 20 points. Ryan is playing like an all-Canadian, and is a treat to watch," said Street.
