PHOTOS: B.C. schools try for rugby provincial titles in Abbotsford

Finals take place Friday evening and Saturday

It's been nonstop action at Abbotsford Exhibition Park this week as rugby teams from all across the province compete in the B.C. High School Provincial Championships, with home crowd advantage working particularly well for one Abbotsford team.

Although several local teams are representing Abbotsford at provincials, only one has cemented its place in the championship match this Saturday.

Robert Bateman had a dominant performance on Thursday morning, keeping St. Michaels University away from the try line for the entire 15s match, taking the 24-0 win and sending themselves to the AA Boys Tier 1 finals.

Abbotsford Senior also had a successful showing on Thursday, beating Carson Graham 29-5 in the AAA Boys Tier 1 division and earning a shot at a fifth-place finish.

On the girls side, there may be a bronze medal in the near future for Yale as they managed to qualify for the third-place final in the AAA Girls division, where they'll face Carson Graham.

The teams that have qualified for the 15s championship matches include:

AAA Girls – GP Vanier vs. Gleneagle

AA Girls – Shawnigan Lake vs. D.W. Poppy

AAA Boys Tier 2 – TBD

AAA Boys Tier 1 – Shawnigan Lake vs. St. George's

AA Boys Tier 2 – TBD

AA Boys Tier 1 – Robert Bateman vs. Collingwood

The remaining teams will be determined by the end of Friday, with the 7s winners crowned on Friday evening.
