The Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce it has recently been awarded $73,045 through the Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program (REDIP) to support its Rural Business Retention and Expansion Project.

This project builds directly on the chamber’s previous REDIP-funded research initiative in 2023, which engaged businesses across The Comox Valley Regional District's Electoral Area C to better understand local economic conditions. Through polling, interviews, and business walks with community leaders, the chamber gathered essential data on the challenges and opportunities rural businesses face. The findings pointed to a clear need for focused, ongoing support — needs this new project now responds to in tangible, community-informed ways.

“This project is about listening to our rural business community and responding with action,” said Tracey Clarke, Executive Director of the Comox Valley Chamber. “This funding allows us to deliver support that meets them where they are.”

Key project activities will include the creation of a part-time rural business advisor position, improved business training and mentorship opportunities, cross-sector collaboration, specialized educational opportunities, and the promotion of sustainable business practices.

"This type of economic development work fits well with the chamber’s mandate to support the local business community at any stage of their journey," a release from the chamber says.

The Comox Valley Chamber extends its sincere thanks to the Province of British Columbia for supporting this important initiative through REDIP’s economic diversification stream.
